چکیده
Curcumin, an active ingredient of curcuma plant has been thought to be beneficial in the treatment of liver diseases. In the previous studies, we have shown the protective effects of curcumin against lipid peroxidation and swelling of the rat liver mitochondrial preparation induced by tert-butylhydroperoxide (t-BuOOH). In the present study, the administration of t-BuOOH of 90 M caused the mitochondria failed to generate a transmembrane potential (m). Of 3 doses of curcumin administered (0.5 M, 2.5 M dan 5.0 M) the maximum protective effect against failure to generate a transmembrane potential caused by tBuOOH was obtained by 2.5 M of curcumin (79.13 + 6.28%). Further, curcumin of 1000 M could prevent protein aggregation formation caused by t-BuOOH in the electrophoretogram. This study shows the protective effects of curcumin against damaged of energy production system and protein of the mitochondria caused by t-BuOOH. (Med J Indones 2007; 16:139-45)

Comparison of the Protective Effects of Curcumin and Nanocurcumin on Acrolein Induced Mitochondrial Toxicity Isolated from Rat Liver
Background and Objectives: Contact with acrolein rapidly reduces intracellular glutathione and its antioxidant capacity and causes mitochondrial dysfunction. The use of some polymeric nanocurcumin increases the stability of curcumin. In this study, the effect of these two, was investigated on acrolein-induced toxicity in mitochondria isolated from rat liver cells. Methods: In this experiment...

Objective(s): Recognized as a distinguished environmental and global toxicant, Bisphenol A (BPA) affects the liver, which is a vital body organ, by the induction of oxidative stress. The present study was designed to investigate the protective effect of quercetin against BPA in hepatotoxicity in Wistar rats and also, the activity of mitochondrial enzymes were evaluated...
متن کاملAntioxidative Effects of Nano-curcumin on Liver Mitochondria Function in Paraquat-induced Oxidative Stress
Background: Paraquat (PQ), as the most widely used herbicide in agriculture, induces poisoning in humans and animals mainly through oxidative stress. This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of nano-curcumin compared with curcumin against PQ-induced mitochondrial dysfunction. Materials and Methods: Thirty-six Wistar rats were used in this study. They were separated into 6 groups...
